Great Irish Elk - made by Saturday Workshop in Dublin, Ireland
The Giant Irish Elk, now extinct, is believed to have roamed the lowlands of central and eastern Ireland, weighing up to 800-1000 lbs. and stood at 2 metres at the shoulder. With antler width of up to 4 metres, ( and weighing up to 35kg) these are the largest antlers know to have existed on any deer. It is understood these Irish Elk were a victim of the Ice Age, finally disappearing from Ireland around 10,500 years ago.
We have had our eye on Saturday Workshop's handmade treasures for the last year now and we were delighted when we finally got the opportunity to work with Iseult and her father Edward this month.
Saturday Workshop is a small workshop based in Sandymount, Dublin that was started by Edward and Iseult O’Clery, who like to make objects together at the weekends! Iseult is a full time Architect and so…they make all of their handmade products together on Saturdays!
Ultimate Colouring Kit - Stephen Farnan Studio - Belfast
Stephen Farnan is a potter by trade and completed a BA in Ceramics at the University of Ulster and an MA at the Royal College of Art in London.
Inspired by the dramatic landscapes that pepper Ireland, Stephen has also created a number of limited edition prints. Now Stephen has taken a fresh approach to his craft by producing maps of different countries and transferring drawings of some of their famous buildings or landscapes onto them. He explains: "We are then putting traditional pencil drawings, which are like caricature versions of different well-known places, onto the maps….I think the reason why colouring has become so popular for adults is that it is a gentle process …which is good for unwinding."
