DANU Designer ceramics was founded by award winning artist and designer Ruth Power. Specialising in handcrafted, designer ceramic home wares, wall art and jewellery, every piece is made with love and dedication by Ruth in Dublin, Ireland.
Earthy, organic yet refined and contemporary aesthetics are combined in the making of each beautiful and unique piece. Ruth is inspired by travels, nature, wanderlust, antiquated trade routes and of course, her home country of Ireland!
Ruth says that within each design there are echoes of ancient artefacts from diverse cultures that can be detected – Celtic, Roman, European, Oriental and Mesoamerican – and yet each piece is unique.
Ruth chose the name 'Danu' for her ceramics collection as this is the name of the ancient Celtic Goddess of earth and creativity
We sent a handmade dark teal and gold trim Danu bowl to our male subscribers and obviously the beautiful ceramic moon and gold star necklace to our female subscribers. We know that subscribers will love each piece as much as we do and we hope that each time it is close to them, they will be reminded of the night sky over the Emerald Isle.
Rathborne Candles - Dublin - The World's oldest Candle Company!
Rathbornes Candles are established as one of the oldest candle makers in the world dating back to 1488 (four years before Christopher Columbus set foot in America!) and since then their candles have been illuminating the streets, homes and churches of Ireland. Master chandler William Rathborne started making candles in Wine Tavern Street, Dublin all those centuries ago. A job at Rathbornes was seen as a job for life by most and generations of different families have dedicated themselves to the Company over time.
Defying the vagaries of business, Rathborne Candles is still on the go and after over five centuries of trading, their luxury candles are still being hand poured in Dublin using their rich knowledge of techniques and ingredients. The 'Beyond the Pale Collection' captures the romance of the Irish Countryside. Essential oils mingle to create a balanced collection to which master blenders have given a luxuriously modern edge.
We chose this scent, firstly because it fit so perfectly with our theme for this month and secondly because we felt it would be universally adored!
Orla Barry Artist - Dundalk
From her studio in Dundalk Orla Barry paints the most whimsical and imaginative pieces of art and we are consistently drawn to the stories that she portrays. Orla says that she is inspired by spiritual symbolism, mysticism, surrealism, fairytales, animals, patterns and a search for perfect color combinations. We chose this mischievous card as we find that it is when evening descends that the hares and bunnies of Ireland are seen brave in the fields! The colours that Orla uses are just so eye catching and her imagination is absolutely wonderful. We are very glad to share this with you.
Orla is inspired by animals, nature, spiritual symbolism, sacred art, mysticism, surrealism, fairytales, patterns and a search for perfect colour combinations. Orla graduated with an honours degree in Fine Art from Dublin
