We could not send an Irish Cottage MyIrelandBox to subscribers without including a St Brigid's cross! This would have been found in every traditional Irish cottage around the country and is still placed in homes to protect them! Founded in 2011, SNOW is a design and laser-cutting company run husband and wife team Fiona Snow and Michael Mohler. They utilise digital fabrication in appropriate ways to enable the development of objects that are seen in Irish design shops all over Ireland!
Helen Magee - Hairy Fruit Art - County Wicklow
We had been secretly working with Helen Magee of Hairy Fruit Art over the past few weeks leading up to this month in the making and designing of this 'Irish Cottage' inspired notebook that is unique to treasured MyIrelandBox subscribers. We love the little Irish Blessing that we chose to be printed on it.
Helen Magee is a long established Wicklow artist and member of the Design and Craft Council of Ireland. Her designs are inspired by anything from the beautiful Irish countryside and local gardens in County Wicklow (known as 'The Garden of Ireland'), and from her life growing up in a home with a Mum who is a fine artist with a great eye for color and a natural flair for interior design.
Samuel Lamont & Sons - Home textiles - Lurgan, County Armagh
We bring your the symbol of Ireland in the shamrock and also the old Irish tradition of embroidery in this cute lavender bag by Samuel Lamont & Sons.
Samuel Lamont & Sons Ltd is a family business which has been manufacturing and supplying a wide range of house-hold textiles for almost 200 years!
Placed - René Mullins - Belfast, County Antrim
René produces her gorgeous handmade pieces from a small studio in her Belfast home as well as the Belfast Print Workshop.
It is clear from her evident talent that René has ancestry links to the linen industry. Her mother's family were flax growers and on her father's side were expert flax millers. What we especially love about René's work is that her beautiful products often include words in gaeilge … again reconnecting with her homeland.
We chose this piece as not only would a tea towel be seen in a typical Irish cottage, but the Irish words for other products typically found in such an abode are printed thereon … such as Siúcra (sugar), Tae (tea) and of course, 'Bainne' (milk)!
Ursula Celano - County Dublin
The Ursula Celano brand is all about designs that say 'Ireland' and we have included her wonderful products in the past. Each of her designs are uniquely Irish yet contemporary.
Ursula's Traditional Irish barns print is reminiscent of the old style sheds or barns that are found close to the Irish cottages of old, deep with the heart of the countryside. As we see these old barns or outhouses (some converted now to houses!) within many green fields in Ireland, it seemed right to include a nod to them in this month's Irish Cottage themed MyIrelandBox.
Monson Irish Jewellery - County Kerry
Ireland is a magical land of fairies, and the Irish people have been telling stories of these mystical beings for hundreds, maybe thousands of years. David creates various enchanted doors so that fairies, leprechauns and all their friends enter your world.
